How to choose patio doors

- Opening and passage
- Compare HS lift-and-slide, PSK tilt ventilation, sliding sashes and folding leaves. Sliding and fixed sections determine the actual clear passage.
- Insulation and glazing
- Assess whole-construction Uw, glass safety and sunlight. Lower Uw means less heat transfer; compare equivalent dimensions and specifications.
- Thresholds and installation
- Agree floor levels, terrace height, drainage and fixing before ordering. A low threshold does not mean every frame can be recessed into the floor.

Dimensions, system, glazing, finish, sash layout, hardware and thresholds determine patio-door pricing. Installation, removal and reveal finishing are assessed for the agreed scope of work.

Questions before choosing patio doors
How do HS, PSK and folding doors differ?
HS lifts and slides; PSK tilts for ventilation and slides after moving away from the frame; folding leaves stack to the side. Other sliding systems have their own movement and sealing designs.
Are all sliding doors equally suitable for a heated home?
No. Assess the actual construction's thermal requirements. IGLO SLIDE, for example, is intended for locations without high insulation requirements.
What should I send for a patio-door quotation?
Opening width and height, a photo or drawing, required clear passage and opening direction. Include finish, location, floor/terrace levels and installation or removal requirements.
