How to choose exterior doors
Start with the building, entrance location and everyday use. Material matters, but the complete construction and installation determine the right solution.
- Insulation and sealing
- For a heated building, assess the whole-door Ud, infill and threshold. A lower Ud means less heat transfer; compare equivalent dimensions and specifications.
- Opening and clear passage
- Provide opening dimensions, swing direction, clear passage width and the number of leaves required. PIVOT doors also need space on both sides.
- Infills and locking
- Glazing, decorative panels, handles and locks affect appearance and use. Include access-control, privacy or fire-rating requirements in your enquiry.

Dimensions, material, system, glazing or panel, finish, hinges, locks and accessories affect the price. Installation, removal of the old door and reveal finishing are assessed for the agreed scope of work.

Which door material should I choose for a house?
PVC, aluminium and timber can all be considered for a home's exterior doors. Compare suitable exterior systems by insulation, design, dimensions, maintenance and the complete quotation.
Are all aluminium doors suitable for a heated building's exterior?
No. MB-45 has no thermal break and is intended for interior structures or locations without insulation requirements. A heated building's entrance requires an appropriate thermally insulated system.
What should I send for a door quotation?
Opening or door dimensions, a photo or drawing, swing direction, preferred finish and infill. Include the site location and any installation or finishing work required.
